Practice description
A seasoned educator, Emily has been in practice as a Director of College Counseling and Curriculum, MS/HS Principal, high school teacher, and IB CAS Service coordinator. Her graduate studies in literacy and language arts, along with a BA in Composition, led her to the American School of Brasilia (EAB) where she taught regular and AP English. Shortly after completing her UC Counseling certificate, she became EAB’s college counselor and began using her free time to support local schools with access to university preparation. . In 2010, she joined forces with KIC UnivAssist as their developer and leader for Brazil recruitment tours; she continues to increase access and outreach for national schools visiting over 30 schools per year and reaching over 5,000 students. The bi-yearly trips offer more opportunities to collaborate with schools and build world-class support programs. From 2018-2021, she served as an executive board member for InterACAC and as a delegate to Latin America for NACAC. She is the founder of The Caribbean and Latin American Network, a group of 300+ educators who work together across several aspects of education with the common goal of improving practices and supporting one another. As part of The Geoswerve Consultancy, a global team with specialties in non-US placement, school counselor support, and complex cases, Emily is proud to have been one of the lead counselors on projects such as The Nepal Justice League and Second Chance, both of which place high achieving, low-income international students, rejected or waitlisted to US universities, with full scholarships, to higher education institutions around the globe. Emily and her award-winning team support counselor development and students in understanding the educational process- ranging from middle school summer programs to L.L.M. applications to service learning development. Her co-authored work, The Amazing Financial Aid Guide for International Students, with colleague Tiffany Knight, was released admissions cycle 2020-2021 in collaboration with The College Essay Guy. Along with Kristen Karovic, the team will release their next publication in 2023, The Amazing Guide to 50 Schools Under 10,000 Dollars. She is a partner to Cesar, mom to Luna, and caregiver to the family’s rescues Simon, Gaia, Nyx, and Maverick.
